Parachute and Aviation Injuries in the Armed Forces

Parachuting is a core part of your training and deployment, especially if you are part of an airborne or specialist unit. Even with strict safety protocols in place, the risks are always present. If something goes wrong whether it’s a failure in equipment maintenance, negligent instruction, or a procedural error the consequences can be life-changing.

Spinal injuries, head trauma, and permanent disability are all possible outcomes. But the impact doesn’t end with the physical. Losing your ability to serve, adjusting to new limitations, and coming to terms with what’s happened can weigh heavily on your mind and your sense of identity.

Aviation accidents can be just as devastating. Whether you were part of a crew or a passenger on board a military aircraft, the effects of a crash or emergency landing can stay with you for years. You might be facing burns, internal injuries, or long-term mobility issues. Then there’s the emotional toll, the memories that replay without warning, the flashbacks, the ongoing sense of vulnerability. It’s common to struggle with anxiety, depression, or post-traumatic stress.

Maybe you’re finding it difficult to feel safe again, to trust, or even to sleep. The fear you felt, the things you saw, it’s not something you just leave behind. For many, the real battle begins after the physical wounds have healed, in therapy sessions, in restless nights, and in the silence that follows you through the day.

Recovery takes time, and it’s rarely straightforward. That’s why legal support matters. The Ministry of Defence has a duty to keep you safe, just like any other employer. If that duty has been breached, whether through faulty equipment, poor training, or preventable mistakes, you have every right to pursue a claim for compensation. This isn’t about disloyalty or stepping away from your commitment to your regiment. It’s about accountability and ensuring you get the support you need to rebuild.

A successful claim can open the door to treatment, therapies, and financial stability all of which can be critical to your recovery.

Starting a Claim

We understand how difficult it can be to take that first step. You might never have spoken to a solicitor before, and especially not about something so personal or so closely tied to your service. That’s why we take the time to listen. We want to hear what happened, how it’s affected you, and what support you need going forward. Some people come to us looking for answers. Others want to secure their future or make sure the MoD recognises what happened and learns from it.

Whatever your reasons, they’re valid and we’re here to help you explore your options with honesty, care, and respect. Compensation won’t change what happened but it can ease the burden and help you take those first steps toward a better future.

If you’ve lost a loved one in a military parachute or aviation incident, and you’re now considering a claim against the Ministry of Defence we understand the complex regulations surrounding military duty and can therefore help navigate the legal process.  While the MoD has legal protections under Crown Immunity in some circumstances, it is not immune from accountability where negligence has occurred.

Coroners’ inquests and internal service inquiries have, in the past, identified failings in equipment maintenance, safety protocols, and operational planning, failings that have led to preventable fatalities. We are committed to supporting bereaved families at an already incredibly difficult time. May we say first and foremost how sorry we are for your loss and secondly, we are here to support you when you feel ready to talk.
